2008 Riesling Experience
- An International Celebration of Style, Structure and Purity
The book has closed on the 2008 Riesling Experience and participants lucky enough to attend the sold out conference have deemed it a tremendous success!! This past July 17th Brock University hosted the first ever Riesling Experience, an international wine tasting and educational event co-organized by Brock's Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute with industry partners from the Grape Growers of Ontario, the Wine Council of Ontario, the Ontario Hostelry Institute, winemakers and winery staff.
More than 150 participants from Ontario and as far as Nova Scotia, parts of the United States and Germany tasted Rieslings from Ontario and around the world.
Our goal was to learn the latest from some of the world's finest winemakers and growers and the feedback from participants suggests that no one was disappointed.
Olivier Humbrecht, first Master of Wine in France discussed his passion for Riesling and secrets to producing magnificent Riesling wines. His tasting of four Humbrecht Rieslings was followed up by a panel of speakers including Uli Fischer, David Peterson and Jim Willwerth (moderated by Dr. Linda Bramble). Participants were treated to Rieslings from Germany, Finger Lakes and Ontario in the morning panel session.
Lunch was created by Chef Jason Parsons of the Peller Estates Winery Restaurant. Five panel-selected Rieslings - four paired with a specially created menu for our "Experience" participants. The first "Ontario Riesling Showcase Bar" featured also panel selected Rieslings from across Ontario - more than 40 spectacular Rieslings were presented.
